Theory and Research on Teaching and Learning Social Studies
In this C3 inquiry, high school students will explore the meaning of global citizenship and justify responsibility for advocating social justice in global societies. Students will examine social justice issues in chosen foreign countries, and discuss and deliberate possible interventions concerning these issues. Students will then analyze the role of the United States in global humanitarian injustices and issues, and critique the benefits and negative aspects of US involvement in social affairs of other countries. Finally, students will create a Public Service Announcement (video, Google Site, etc.) to showcase their research, the global issue and possible solutions. They will write a reflection essay that compares this social justice issue and benefits/negatives of advocacy to one that is ongoing in US history and analyze possible solutions to these issues.
