How can I provide a differentiated, self-paced learning environment using digital technology to improve student learning in the social studies?

A recent graduate of the New Literacies and Global Learning Program at North Carolina State University, Rachel is a high school social studies teacher in Elon, NC. Her interest in digital differentiation in the social studies began when she started teaching Advanced Placement United States History and noticed the variation in students' reading, writing, and critical analysis skills. Using new technology and pedagogy from the NLGL program, she designed blended learning courses in the public high school setting. The NLGL program has increased her knowledge and ability to harness technology to meet the diverse needs of students in the secondary social studies.
